When trying to save lives, hospitals need to have plenty of crucial supplies on hand, and this month, health professionals are hoping to get your help donating blood.
January is Blood Donor Month and local blood banks will do what they can, to increase the number of donors.
Local hospitals need blood donors more than ever now, especially since a broader range of surgeries have increased the demand for blood.
Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital said it also sees an increase in recreational activities like boating and ATV riding, which also have increased the demand for blood.
"And with that increase, you have an increase in accidents and unfortunately a lot of those accidents require a lot of blood, some very quickly," said Karen Westfall, of Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.
