The seventh annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration was held Monday at the Metropolitan Theatre in Morgantown.
This year's theme was "Hand in Hand, Together We Can."
City Manager Terrence Moore read a book to the audience, and local school bands performed.
The event was started by the city's Community Coalition for Social Justice. Its co-chair said there is an important message with the holiday.
"All the kids have the day off, and it's shouldn't be just a regular day, and they should be able to learn about his important message to promote tolerance, understanding, social justice, and that's what we're all about," said Rosalyn Becker, of Community Coalition for Social Justice.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's, "I Have a Dream" speech.
