Woodland Community Lenders is helping local businesses see new life.
The group provides low-interest loans funded by grants, donations, and federal re-lending programs.
Eligible businesses, like the Tip Top Coffee Shop in Thomas, can use the money to help pay for improvements.
The coffee shop used its low interest, fixed rate loan to buy new furniture and equipment.
"We're trying to provide an alternative to traditional lending to businesses that may not be able to get financing through a regular bank so its often characterize as putting character before credit," said Dave Clark, of Woodlands Development Group.
Woodlands fosters economic development and downtown revitalization.
It serves communities in Randolph, Barbour, and Tucker counties.
