Tips for Keeping Your New Year's Fitness Resolution

The New Year is just around the corner and many people are planning resolutions.

One of the most common New Year's resolutions is to get healthy. Planet Fitness in Bridgeport is expecting large numbers of new members for two reasons.

"Well of course we will get more members for people who want a fresh start with their health and fitness. Also because we're a new club, and we have an absolutely fantastic gym here" said Tom Lucas, Planet Fitness Regional Manager.

Many people set goals to lose weight or get fit, and most don't succeed in doing so, but Lucas offered tips for attaining these goals.

"One of the things they need to do is set realistic goals so that they can attain the goals, and then increase them as they see fit" Lucas said.

Members said that the best way to stay motivated is to use the buddy system.

"We motivate each other" said Amy Criss, Planet Fitness member.

"Whenever one of us starts, ‘we can't do this, we can't do this' we say remember, come on, we CAN do this" said Billie Rogers, Planet Fitness member.

Planet Fitness is filled with signs that read, "judgement free zone" and "you belong." This helps members to feel welcome and accepted.

"We want to create an environment that's not intimidating for our members. Most of the people that actually join this gym are first time gym users. We don't cater to body builders we cater to the general public" Lucas said.

"It makes me feel better" Rogers said.

Criss said that it makes working out there more comfortable.

"We're not as self conscious. Other people are having the same problems we do and it makes it easier to work with them" Criss said.

Lucas said that one of the main things to help achieve your long term fitness goals is to keep your workout fresh and new.

"We have a great training program. It's called "PE at PF" and it's totally free, unlimited fitness training to all the members. And it's available with any membership. What it's designed to do is keep your workouts fresh and exciting, so that you will keep coming back" Lucas said.

Planet Fitness has already seen a lot of new memberships being formed, but it expects even more once the New Year arrives.
