The AARP hosted a "Hunger Summit" in Morgantown to discuss the problem of food insecurity in West Virginia.
During the meeting, groups worked towards creating a statewide Food Policy Council.
The council would work to bring food banks and other organizations across West Virginia together.
The Mountaineer Food Bank said more can be accomplished if they work as a unit.
"It's so important for us to be able to work together, communicate and be able to take all of our issues, and develop that plan. If we're working in separate directions, we'll accomplish some, of we're working together we'll be able to accomplish so much more," said Chad Morrison, of Mountaineer Food Bank.
The food banks said about one in eight West Virginians face hunger every day.
