The United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties announced its 2012 fundraising campaign total.
It said organizations across the area raised more than $1.5 million for the non-profit.
Leading the way was West Virginia University, raising more than $330,000. Mylan Pharmaceuticals raised another $230,000.
The United Way's total surpassed its goal by almost $70,000.
"Through the United Way, we have a process called 'Citizen's Review.' We have local volunteers that help us allocate out the dollars. The funds we're raising for this year's campaign will go to support 49 programs at 29 local human health agencies," said Brandi Helms of the United Way.
The money will be distributed to organizations across the area in January.
