The Ritchie County Sheriff's Department is investigating an incident that sent one of its deputies to the hospital.

On Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m., Michael Lee Sharp and Amanda Marie Clendenning were both released from the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County.

After being released, Sharp and Clendenning stole a regional jail employee's car and fled toward Ritchie County, according to a news release from the Ritchie County Sheriff's Office.

The car was spotted by a W.Va. State Police trooper in Pennsboro at the 7-Eleven at the Route 50 and Route 74 intersection. The two suspects fled from the trooper when he directed them to stop.

The two then traveled north to the intersection of Route 74 and Myles Avenue. According to the news release, Ritchie County Sheriff's deputy Jim Asbury was entering the intersection as the two suspects ran through the intersection without stopping, and crashed into Deputy Asbury's car, while Deputy Asbury and his K-9 Benji were in it.

Sharp, Clendenning and Deputy Asbury were all taken by ambulance to local hospitals, treated and released, according to the news release.

Michael Sharp, the driver of the stolen vehicle, is in North Central Regional Jail for grand larceny, reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device and fleeing with a vehicle.
