The Harrison County Sheriff's Department has withdrawn its membership and concurring jurisdiction from the Harrison County Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force, according to a news release from Harrison County Sheriff and Treasurer Albert F. Marano.
The Harrison County Commission and the Sheriff's Treasurer's Office will also no longer administer the grant or be responsible for any financial obligations of the day to day operations of the Task Force, effective January 1, 2013.
In a letter addressed to Harrison County Task Force Control Board Members, Marano stated that he is "less than pleased with the performance" of the Task Force and said that "given their lackluster commitment, I feel the need to redirect resources of the Harrison County Sheriff's Department in a way that will better serve the citizens of Harrison County".
Sheriff Marano also stated in the letter that his decision was made "after several years of disappointment" in the Task Force's day to day operations along with their failure to cooperate with other law enforcement entities.
