A text message-based scam is going around this holiday season.
The Better Business Bureau said shoppers across the country are reporting a gift card text message scam.
The method is called "smishing," and it involves receiving a text message saying you've won a gift card to a major retailer.
The message will lead you to a website that appears legitimate but will ask you for personal information, such as your name and mailing address.
The BBB said the texts are just a way for shady advertisers to collect information about you.
You can report any scams to the BBB's website.
