Update: Thursday, Dec. 6:
Ruby Memorial Hospital upgraded the condition of a woman injured Tuesday in a Randolph County shooting Thursday.
Elizabeth Smith, 49, is now in good condition.
State police said Smith's ex-husband, Jeffrey Zirkle, 52 shot her several times.
State police later shot and killed Zirkle after he posed a threat.
The shootings remain under investigation.
Update: Wednesday, Dec. 5:
As of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Elizabeth Smith, the victim of Tuesday's shooting in Randolph County, has been upgraded to serious condition, according to officials at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Smith had been previously listed in critical condition.
State Police are still investigating a shooting that happened in Randolph County Tuesday.
Elizabeth Smith, 49 of Coalton, was shot her ex-husband by Jeffrey Zirkle, 52 of Jimtown, in her vehicle multiple times, at a house in Jimtown Tuesday, according to Sgt. Michael Baylous, of the W.Va. State Police.
Smith left the house after being shot and drove to a family member's house in Coalton, where 911 was contacted. Sgt. Baylous said she was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital.
A standoff ensued involving law enforcement and Zirkle. Around 5:45 p.m., Zirkle came outside with a weapon, and was shot and killed. State police said Zirkle posed a threat and was given every opportunity to surrender peacefully.
Sgt. Baylous said a motive is currently unknown but said a lengthy investigation will be conducted and a report will be submitted to the Randolph County Prosecutor.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Department also assisted in the incident.
One person is in the hospital after a shooting in Randolph County, Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting happened at a house near Coalton Elementary School, West Virginia State Police said.
The school was put on lock down until students were sent home around 3:30 p.m.
The shooting victim was able to call 911 and was flown, by Healthnet, to Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown, troopers said. The victim's condition has not been released.
The shooter was said to be in a standoff with law enforcement, according to state police.
There is no word on a motive for the shooting.
A tow truck took a car from the scene to be processed for evidence.
