It's still fairly early in the WVIAC basketball season but this week two local players earned weekly honors from the conference. It is the second week in a row an area men's basketball player has received the award.
Alderson-Broaddus' Kurklin Bohanon is the WVIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The senior shares the honor with Shepherd's Brantley Osborne.
Bohanon helped the Battlers beat conference rival West Virginia Wesleyan last week. The win ended a four-game losing streak that A-B had against the Bobcats.
Cleveland native Bohanon had 21 points in the game against Wesleyan. He hit four three-pointers, grabbed four rebounds, snagged two steals to go with one block and one assist.
Fairmont State's Hailey Garrett is the WVIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. She shares the accolade with Shepherd's Gabby Flinchum.
North Marion graduate Garrett helped the Lady Falcons win two games last week. Against Pitt-Johnstown, the sophomore scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Garrett also recorded a career-high six assists against UPJ. In a win over Bluefield State, Garrett scored 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had four assists and four steals.
