WVIAC Basketball Preview: Davis & Elkins Women

Posted: Updated:

The Davis and Elkins women's basketball team won its first WVIAC Tournament game in a decade last March.

You can bet Head Coach Jason Asbell will be trying to build on that this season.

The Senators welcome in three new freshman, but will be led by a trio of seniors in Page Turner, Amy Turner and Beth Gribble.

Page Turner was a Second Team All-WVIAC standout last year, averaging more than 12 points per game.

Forward Jordan Lykes will also be a key component this season.

Lykes was an All-WVIAC Honorable Mention pick last year.

Coach Asbell knows if this season is going to be successful, the Lady Senators need to get the ball into the paint.

"We definitely want to play inside out," commented Coach Asbell. "We feel the post players are the strength of our team. That's going to enable our guards to shoot the ball better from the perimeter. So we definitely want to start inside out and use that to our advantage."

The D&E Women were picked to finish in the middle of the pack at No. 7.

This team definitely has potential to finish higher.
