With the help of a new non-profit organization in Morgantown, veterans can hit the books when they return from service.
Operation Welcome Home kicked off its Camo to Cap program Thursday. The program collects school supplies and other necessary materials for veterans seeking higher education. Operation Welcome Home said its primary goal is to increase local support for veterans when they return home. They said promoting education is just one part of that effort.
"The whole concept provides us the opportunity as a local community to provide support to our military veterans who have the best training in the world that will now be coupled with a degree," said Operation Welcome Home's Jamie Summerlin. "They can in turn give back to that community as an educated veteran and be able to support the community that supported them through their college years."
Operation Welcome Home opened its facility in Morgantown in May, 2012. Pace Enterprises is currently the parent organization, but Summerlin said Operation Welcome Home is working to achieve independent non-profit status.
