It's a business that prides itself on what fast food used to be.
It serves hot dogs and chili in an atmosphere filled with nostalgia.
Custard Stand opened its first location in Webster Springs in 1991. Franchise opportunities became available in 2011. With the fifth location opening in Elkins in June. The franchise wanted to offer that same great customer service and made to order food.
"We like our chili and hot dogs. We have our world's famous Custard Stand chili and we thought Elkins needed something like this, it's new and clean and we're proud of it," said Gary Jones, manager.
If hot dogs are not on your mind, you can choose from a wide selection of food from Custard Stand's menu. From salads to sandwiches, chili soup to of course its ice cream. The business prides itself on what fast food used to be.
"Our slogan is that we are fast food the old fashion way. We prepare your order it's not made up, sitting in the back. When you order we go make it, and we're proud of that," Jones said.
Each location is different in décor. The owners of the Elkins location went with a Route 66 décor. It can seat up to 45 customers, and if your one of those customers who likes ice cream don't be surprised if there's a flavor already made for your sweet tooth.
"We have 24 flavors of ice cream which one of the kids told me one day he'd figured it up if you combined those into a 1,060 flavors. So if you can figure a flavor of ice cream we got it for you," Jones said.
The Elkins location is open Sunday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturdays it closes at 11 p.m. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter or Youtube.
