Local universities are teaming up with the African Sports Management Association to build athletic relationships.
African and American universities came together at West Virginia University for the sports management conference.
The event focused on establishing partnerships in African and American athletics.
A representative from an African university said sports have significant financial pull.
"Occupations here in the United States, guys are making big money, its big business," said Soita Paschal, of Kyambogo University. "So for sports management, which is the tool for generating money, who says one does not need the income."
The schools also hoped to build a foundation for study abroad programs.
