The United Hospital Center held its 13th annual 'Celebration of Life' event at the Bridgeport Conference center on Sunday.
Cancer survivors, family members, and UHC staff use the event to raise awareness about the battle against cancer.
This year's event also included an open house for the new in-house PET-CT Scanner, and guests received a tour of UHC's newest addition.
The scanner helps in diagnostic and progress reports.
Some cancer survivors said new technology and events like the 'Celebration of Life' is what continues to give people hope.
"It gives hope to those who have already been there," said Vera Johnson, a cancer survivor. "We aren't out of the woods so to speak. But for new people coming into this problem and they see survivors, that gives them a chance to think in terms of long survival for themselves."
The new PET/CT Scanner will allow the public to stay closer to home rather than driving to Pittsburgh.
