Girls ages 12 to 18 competed for the Ridge Riders Interscholastic Riding Association.
The horse show is a two day event at the WVU Reedsville Farm extension. Girls showed their riding abilities by competing against other young ladies in their class. The event had about 100 riders coming from five different states, including Virginia and North Carolina.
The organizer is a skilled rider who wants to spread the word about horse riding competitions in the area.
"We want to let people know that there's an activity out there to get kids out of the house to do this type of team competition through riding," said the organizer, Michele Koury. "The kids don't have to have a horse to do this, they take their lessons and compete five times within a year."
The Interscholastic Riding Association is a non-profit organization. Kids can earn recognition that leads to scholarships for riding in college.
