The Lewis County Health Department wants to ban smoking in most public places within the county.
The department's new proposal would ban smoking in any public space, as well as any business that offers goods or services to its customers.
The move will also stop people from smoking in areas like public parks.
The ban is still up for consideration, but some business owners said it won't make that much of a difference for them.
"We don't allow smoking in our establishment. We cater to families and the whole community, so we let our patrons smoke outside or ask them to," said Jill Stewart, owner of the Pink Moon Coffeehouse in Weston.
The public has 60 days to send in their comments on the issue to the health department. That period ends January 5.
