Inmates in a Taylor County prison are helping out kids at WVU's Children's Hospital.
This summer, a benefit softball tournament started by the inmates at the Pruntytown Correctional Center raised more than $1,000 for the children's hospital.
The prison said many of the inmates felt passionately about helping and that their plan turned into a great fundraiser.
"Once they came up with a plan and it looked feasible, we kind of tested the waters to see what kind of response we would get from the rest of the prison, and when it was all said and done, actually I think about half the inmates were involved in some aspect or another of the tournament," said program supervisor William Shahan.
The money was raised through donations made by the inmates.
