The city of Fairmont has recently taken ownership of the Masonic Temple on Jefferson Street.
The city plans to restore the building, which has been vacant for years.
Fairmont has received a grant from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History to replace the roof and staff is currently cleaning out the building.
"Urban renewal authority will be the entity that takes over the building and re-develops it," said Fairmont city planner Katherine Wyrosdick. "We will start doing some market studies to access what's really marketable for this site. Starting the process is essentially what we are doing."
Fairmont State University Senior Architecture students are helping to redesign the building's exterior.
