Do you think you treat overweight people different than those who aren't?
A WVU professor said discrimination of overweight people is common.
Professor Deborah Christel spoke about that with some students and faculty as part of the University's Diversity Week.
Christel said America's weight problems make ending this discrimination as important as ever.
"It's time that fat women and fat men stand up and say 'hey, it's not ok to make fun of me on TV. It's not ok to treat me poorly. It's not ok to offer me less health insurance and we deserve just as much as everyone else,'" Christel said.
With more than 32 percent of the population listed as obese, the Center for Disease Control said West Virginia is among the most obese states.
