A local elementary school dedicates one day each year to learning about West Virginia history.
This year, Flemington Elementary School added a little twist to Mountaineer Day.
The WVU Mountaineer made an appearance to help the kids celebrate.
Jonathan Kimble spoke to the students about West Virginia traditions, its history, and popular sites throughout the state.
He also visited classrooms to answer questions from students.
Principal Richard Petras said students were thrilled about their visitor.
"They are going to remember this for a long time," Petras said. "And they certainly are going to remember the next generation standards related to social studies because he did an great job of presenting them."
The school is hoping to build off of opportunities like this by bringing in other speakers to better educate students.
