Some Harrison County residents took time out of their busy schedule to donate blood at United Hospital Center.
The American Red Cross was on site as October is breast cancer awareness month.
Doctors remind us how important blood donations are for cancer patients.
"Cancer patients are often taking chemotherapy which suppresses the body's ability to produce blood," said Dr. Paul Brager, of UHC Cancer Center. "Frequently, they need blood transfusions. We also see a fair amount of blood cancer patients that cannot produce their own blood."
The blood drive will also be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at UHC.
