A-B Football Beats WV Opponent Bethany 47-6

The Alderson-Broaddus College football team didn't have to leave the state to pick up its seventh straight win on Monday. A-B is still undefeated.

The Battlers beat Bethany College's JV team 47-6.

A-B scored 47 unanswered points, 29 in the third quarter alone. Bethany scored in the final minutes of the game.

The Battlers scored three passing touchdowns. In the second quarter, Quarterback Wilson Vaughn hit Andre Garcia on a 39-yard scoring pass, putting A-B up 9-0 on Bethany. Caelen Ecos ran in a two point conversion to make it 11-0.

In the third quarter, Quarterback Matt Hommell found Cooper Schroeder on a 22-yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempt was missed and A-B's lead moved to 17-0.

Bethany went three and out then Hommell went to work again. Hommell threw a six-yard scoring pass to Isaac Silafau.

Philip Warner added a 42-yard field goal later to give the Battlers a 27-0 lead.

A-B Defensive Back Mamoud Kakay grabbed an interception to give the Battlers another chance to score. Vaughn scored on the next drive. He completed a pass to Garcia in the endzone, pushing the Battlers' lead to 34-0.

Defensive Back Corey Hankerson followed Kakay's lead, grabbed an interception then ran 74 yards the other way for another A-B score. The Battlers had a 40-point lead after that turnover.

In the fourth quarter Defensive Lineman Daniel Fultz got credit for a touchdown after the Bethany center snapped the ball past the quarterback and into the endzone. Fultz fell on the ball for the score.

Vaughn led the A-B quarterbacks with 100 passing yards and two touchdowns. Hommell had 76 yards in the air and a score.

Thomas Handy headed the run game with nine carries for 92 yard. Douglas Wesson had 45 yards and Brehon Daniels recorded 30 yards rushing.

Garcia had two catches for 72 yards and two scores to lead the receiving corps.

Warner had two field goals from 43 and 25 yards and three of his kickoffs were touchbacks.

A-B's next game is against Navy in Annapolis, Md.
