People gathered at the historic Metropolitan Theater on Monday for a lecture with John Burton.
Burton is a conservation architect who helps maintain and restore buildings, including the Westminster Abbey.
West Virginia University's Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design hosted the event.
"I really want to encourage people to understand what conservation and restoration, preservation really means. And how important it is to have craftsman and women who can look after historic buildings in the proper way," Burton said.
The event also offered a question and answer session after the lecture. Burton answered questions about his work and answered architectural questions from audience members.
The Davis College has a design department, which focuses on architecture-type courses.
