If you cast your ballot on Election Day, there’s a strong chance are you did it in a school or other public building. Schools and churches in the Mountain State are the most common locations for setting up polling places. And it’s been that way for a long time.

With election day one month away, the United Mine Workers of America continues to sit out the presidential race for the first time in 40 years.

On Friday, the union announced it's backing Democratic U.S. House and Senate candidates in 16 states.

But the Coal Miners Political Action Committee didn't endorse either Republican Mitt Romney or Democrat Barack Obama. It says neither has demonstrated he will be on the side of union members and their families.

The union backed Obama in 2008. Spokesman Phil Smith says no final decision has been made on whether anyone will ultimately get the nod this year.

In West Virginia, it's backing incumbent U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin and Rep. Nick Rahall. In Virginia, it's backing U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine and two Democratic congressional challengers.
