Monongah Middle School has several new musical instruments for band students thanks to a grant from VH1 Save the Music.
The school received $30,000 worth of instruments including eight flutes, 11 clarinets, three alto saxophones, six trumpets, and more.
Band director Tom Straight said the grant gives students the opportunity to experiment with the instruments.
"They can find out what they like," Straight said. "They can try one instrument for a while. If they don't like that, they try another one. They really get what's suited to them. When they go to commit to an instrument they really know what they want to do."
Monongah Middle is the only school in Marion County to receive the grant.
