FSU Men's Basketball Holds Individual Development Camp

Posted: Updated:

Young basketball players from around the area are enjoying a new camp at Fairmont State this week.

New Fairmont State Men's Basketball Coach Jerrod Calhoun is hosting his second Individual Development Camp in Fairmont. The first camp was in June.

About 60 campers are working on skill development, playing games and having contests at the day camp.

Calhoun said he decided to do a second camp because the first one went well. FSU even got more campers the second time around.

Campers are from 8 to 18 years old, split into two age divisions.

Calhoun said the campers also do drills, work at stations, have lectures from the Fairmont State Staff and the youngsters get to see Falcon players demonstrate.

With help from FSU coaches and players, camp is a great time for the athletes to work on different skills.

"Simple defensive and offensive drills," said camper Sam Kniceley about the drills the campers do. "We're doing a lot of ball handling and shoot and stances."

"Little bit of everything," said Coach Calhoun about what he's trying to accomplish with the campers. "We're trying to teach them some offensive things, work on moving without the ball. Defensive things, keeps guys on one side, just different philosophies we have here, trying to implement them in these kids' games."

Coach Calhoun said the point of Fairmont State basketball camp is for the kids to have fun, learn something and want to come back.
