The Bridgeport Little League baseball teams have been pretty busy this summer. On Saturday the 11-year old little leaguers had a chance to represent the state of West Virginia in next week's Southeast Regional.
However Martinsburg would stand in their way of an opportunity to win that elusive West Virginia state championship.
Martinsburg led 1-0 heading into the third inning and they would add to that added to that lead. Garrett Hobson hit a hard grounder to the short stop. The throw went to home plate but the tag wasn't delivered in time. Martinsburg led 2-0.
Then the train really began to fall of the track for Bridgeport. Martinsburg's Aaron Pierson drilled a single to left field. Another run came in and it was 3-0 Martinsburg.
Bridgeport brought in a new pitcher but an even worse result ensued. Martinsburg's Hunter Reedy takes the pitch to the deepest part of center field. Two runs came in and Martinsburg knocked off Bridgeport 11-5 in the 11-year old age group.
But earlier in the week the 9-10 year old Bridgeport team did knock off Martinsburg to advance to the Southeast Regional. They were excited to say the least.
"We get to play Florida, Virginia and North Carolina," Bridgeport pitcher AJ Goodwin said. "The states from the southeast."
