The Morgantown High School girls basketball team has had a good three week workout during the practice period.
The Mohigans are wrapping things up by playing in a two-day shootout in St. Albans against state tournament teams like Spring Valley, Huntington St. Joes, and George Washington.
Morgantown has eight seniors coming back and that experience breeds confidence which the team is looking to build on. So, summer workouts have been a good time to see who might step up from the JV team.
Head Coach Adam Henkins said his team has done the best with what they can over the three weeks and the time together has been valuable. Henkins said it will definitely help when the season starts in the winter because summer drills are a good time to assess what the team has.
"It's one of those things where you're just basically evaluating some talent. Because, other than being together with your teammates, being together, and doing some maybe adding some new pieces to the puzzle here or there, and working on some fundamentals, you don't do conditioning at all really. If you lose that in my opinion, in the three weeks, if you get deep into that for three weeks then you lose it until November as far as basketball goes. So it's very important that we have the three weeks or have some type of season workout so I'm very grateful for that ."
