It is one thing to have an idea, but to have an idea turn into drawings for a new baseball stadium, now that is a sign of progress.
Designstream LLC in Pittsburgh has provided West Virginia University with some renderings of the proposed baseball stadium in Morgantown.
A series of 10 renderings have been posted to West Virginia's official athletic website. These 10 photos show a three-level seating area. The lower level and second level are separated by a walkway stretching from third base to first base. The third level is a suite-level design with a press box included on that level.
The seats are blue with gold trim on the railings. A picnic seating area lines the right field side of the stadium with gold and blue umbrellas providing shade. The name of the stadium is Mountaineer Ballpark in the renderings, but that can be changed and likely will if and when a title sponsor signs on for naming rights.
WVU would likely not be the only users of the ballpark. The New York-Penn League, a single-A minor league affiliate, is expressing potential interest in placing a team in Morgantown. Fairmont State has also expressed potential interest in playing games at the new ballpark. Concerts may also be held inside the stadium.
