Morgantown Police Charge 3 Men for Morgantown Dumpster Fire

Three men face malicious burning charges for a dumpster fires set in Morgantown on March 11.

Morgantown police were able to locate Brendan Schweer, 23, Michael Howell, 23, and Corey Burns, 23, over the weekend and served warrants for the fire set near their home in the Sunnyside neighborhood.

Morgantown detectives said the three were seen pouring gas on a dumpster fire at the corner of Beverly Avenue and Fourth Street around 3 a.m. Sunday, March 11.

Schweer and Howell are listed as students in West Virginia University's directory, Burns is listed as an athletic tutor.

They're charged with malicious burning, a misdemeanor. If convicted, the three would face a minimum $1,000 fine and reimbursing the city for any costs of fighting the fire.

WVU officials have said that students and staff involved in the fires could face expulsion or termination.
