Not all skin is created equal. A local businesses is taking note and helping out customers from around West Virginia.
"It's about your skin; not just looking good," customer Sue Charles said.
Charles makes a monthly trip from Glenville to Weston for a facial at the Riversong Spa. She has also gotten her makeup done.
But owner Allison Clem saw a greater value to her client's appointments than pampering.
"That's one of my first priorities is to convince people to give something back to themselves, which I think will help them be able to take care of every body else in their lives better, do a better job and be a better mother, wife, daughter, sister or friend," Clem said.
Her attitude is unique. She is a former full-time teacher, who gave up hours in the classroom to pursue her dream of becoming an aesthetician. It was a big financial risk, but Clem's business is about more than money, she said. She kept her teacher friends and the economy in mind when she made her prices and when she does her pampering. She does facials, waxing, skin treatments and sells retail products.
"If I have a product or treatment I can do for your skin and you didn't know to ask for it, I want to do it anyway so I can provide a service. So I'm big on keeping my costs affordable so every body feels like they can do something nice for themselves," Clem said.
"It's not like there are four people sitting and waiting and she never gets in a hurry," Charles said.
Clem always customizes her treatments and skin care advice. But her homegrown W.Va. business is not only unique for its service; she also stocks products that are hard to find in West Virginia, like Eminence Organic Skin Care and GloMinerals makeup.
"I try to go completely paraben free, which is a chemical preservative," Clem said. "I try to seek out products that have really clean ingredients and just only added vitamins and nutrients to the skin."
"Anytime we find a treasure like this place we should support it. I think we're extremely lucky that she is in Weston," Charles said.
And the value of something that no one else can get - because no two faces are alike - makes it a "blemish-free" decision.
