After a sluggish first half against Richwood, South Harrison closed out its first round win by scoring 37 unanswered points. While the defense shut down the Lumberjacks, Freddy Canary shouldered the load on offense.

The running back factory at Bridgeport has produced another standout. Junior Jake Bowen rushed for 258 yards and two touchdowns in a career performance Friday night, as the Indians blanked Keyser 30-0.

Landon McFadden burst onto the scene by necessity last year. He stepped up for the Hawks as a freshman, rushing for more than 400 yards. Once again this year, he’s helping seniors Freddy Canary and Cam Barnette carry the load, and his athleticism has allowed long-time head coach Brad Jett to mix things up on offense.

After playing two full seasons without a win, Philip Barbour get a new head coach. But to develop a winning attitude, the players needed to become leaders.  Enter Chase Collier, a multi-sport athlete at PB, who did everything his coach asked of him to get ready for the season. He hit the weights, studied film and executed the game plan, helping the Colts to a 27-7 victory over rival Grafton in head coach Russ Collett's debut.

The last time Tygarts Valley made it to the state tournament, the Bulldogs were a premier team in Class AA. They won back-to-back state titles in 1978-and-79, going undefeated each season. Now a Class A program, the Bulldogs will return to states for the first time since 1979, after taking the toughest possible road through sectionals and regionals.
