GRANVILLE, WV – With just 10 games to go, the Black Bears entered Tuesday's game with State College fighting for their playoff lives. They fell behind 8-0, and it looked like they'd easily lose their eighth game in nine tries. But they fought back, slowly but surely. They even pulled ahead of the Spikes in the seventh inning, taking a 9-7 lead. And then, for the sixth time in nine contests, that lead disappeared, leaving the Black Bears with nothing to show for their efforts.

The first African-born player to reach the majors has joined the Black Bears on a rehab assignment. Infielder Gift Ngoepe started at shortstop for West Virginia in its 8-5 extra-inning victory over Mahoning Valley Tuesday night. Ngoepe went 0-3 with a strikeout. Ngoepe made his big league debut with the Pirates earlier this season, and was reassigned to Class AAA Indianapolis in early June. He's currently recovering from a hamstring injury.

    Coach Jack Meriwether arrived on the West Virginia Wesleyan's campus in the summer of 2015 and served as an assistant coach for 1 1/2 seasons. Unexpectedly, during the midst of the 2016-2017 Basketball season, Coach Meriwether served as the interim head coach for two months, where he led the Bobcats to an 8-7 record.     Buckhannon, WV - The West Virginia Wesleyan College 2017 Baseball season may have started off slow as the team went 1-11 in the first two weeks. But with leadership from Bridgeport native and senior outfielder, John Koon, the team has started to turn things around. Koon is our College Spotlight of the Week after hitting .533 (16-30) in eight games for the bobcats. The senior earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Regional Player of the week.
